Take Action words

Legislative attacks against LGBTQ+ youth continue. This week, House Bill 8 will receive two hearings and is expected to pass out of committee by Wednesday. This harmful bill is Ohio's version of Florida's infamous “Don't Say Gay” bill, threatening the privacy of LGBTQ+ students statewide.

If passed, HB 8 would restrict how so-called "sexuality content" can be taught in schools, as well as require that schools share various information about a student's health and well-being with the student's parents. This includes "any request by a student to identify as a gender that does not align" with their sex assigned at birth.

Take Action: Tell the Senate Educate Committee to vote NO on HB 8.

Lawmakers may amend HB 8 during committee hearings this week to include additional provisions that negatively impact students.

Students, especially those who do not feel safe at home, should be able to approach teachers and school staff without the fear of having their privacy violated and safety jeopardized. HB 8 directly threatens the autonomy of students and the discretion of trusted faculty.

Join us in urging lawmakers to reject House Bill 8 and protect the rights and privacy of students, especially those vulnerable in the LGBTQ+ community.
