A discussion with alternative media journalists: Mnar Muhawesh Adley (MintPress News), Rania Khalek (Unauthorized Disclosure), and Anya Parampil (The Grayzone).  A 2019 study (“50 Years of Occupation”) published by 416Labs found that among mainstream news outlets, there were “over four times more Israeli centric headlines than Palestinian ones” as well as an overall decline in coverage of Israel and Palestine since the Oslo peace accords of 1993. Corporate media routinely fails to report on Israel’s persistent war crimes against Palestinians including the latest string of bombing operations in Gaza (August 2020). Furthermore, when reporting is conducted, news outlets such as CNN, Fox News, The New York Times and many others overwhelmingly parade out pro-Israel media hacks to spin Israeli state narratives (or hasbara). Increasingly, alternative and new media has become the only refuge for honest coverage concerning Israel and Palestine. In this online webinar and discussion, author and activist, Miko Peled, hosts an esteemed panel of some of the sharpest, accomplished and uncompromising journalists working today. These are four individuals who have helped build principled and dependable media organizations while contributing to the canon of accurate reporting on Israel and Palestine. Miko will ask the panel, “Why is the mainstream media silent on Palestine?”, contextualize alternative media’s battle against hasbara in the digital landscape, and analyze if the scales are beginning to tip in Palestine’s favor in the war of information.  More information and registration here
