This webinar examines comparatively the growth and political effectiveness of right-wing populism in Western Europe, Central Europe, and the USA since 9/11. Right-wing populists in both the USA and Europe pursue this strategy because they see it as chiming well with public opinion at a time of great uncertainty, instability, and insecurity.

Speaker: Jeffrey Haynes, B.A. (Hons), PhD

Jeffrey Haynes is Emeritus Professor of Politics at London Metropolitan University, UK. His areas of expertise are religion and international relations, religion and politics, democracy and democratization, development studies and comparative politics, and globalization.

He is author or editor of more than fifty books; his most recent is: Trump and the Politics of Neo-Nationalism: The Christian Right and Secular Nationalism in America [London, Routledge, 2021].

He received the International Studies Association Religion and International Relations Section’s Distinguished Scholar Award in 2016. He is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Democratization, Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Religion, and series editor of the series, “Routledge Studies in Religion and Politics.”
