Saturday, November 19, 12noon-6pm, Stonewall Columbus, 1160 N. High St.

What to expect: gallery premiere, silent art auction, trans wellness fair, documentary film viewing, guest speakers.

More about the project:

From the creative mind of Mx. Vincent-Natasha Gay (they/them), the “This is Trans” project was started at the beginning of 2022 as a way to bring visibility and awareness to transgender people of all forms. Participants in this project have been photographed as they are, showing the world that they are completely valid in their unique and diverse transgender identity and presentation. All participants have contributed their personalities, their identities, their compassion, and their desire to see a world that truly accepts and loves them for the beautiful humans that they are.

“This is Trans” will have two aspects for presentation, both of them fully open and available to the public. There will be a live portrait gallery on display at Stonewall Columbus beginning November 19 and running throughout the remainder of 2022. To protect the identities of the participants, the portraits will only display the person’s pronouns and a unique written quote about what being transgender means to them. As well, there will be a documentary created by Vincent-Natasha Gay and Alex Rodgers. Both the gallery and the documentary will be completely open and authentic to the truth of what being transgender truly is.

Stonewall Columbus will be hosting a transgender wellness fair and art viewing to coincide with Transgender Day of Remembrance and Transgender Awareness Week. This event will have the viewing of both the portrait gallery and documentary; as well as a transgender wellness fair featuring transgender organizations from around Columbus, a silent art auction of donated art from local transgender artists, and guest speakers. All money raised from the project and the event will go directly to Stonewall Columbus to be used to fund transgender awareness and support events and opportunities.

The gallery will remain viewable to the public during normal business hours throughout the remainder of 2022.

An after-party will take place at Half Baked Brewery in the Short North from 8pm to 1am.

Hosted by Stonewall Columbus and Mx. Gay Photography.
