Tuesday, May 10, 12noon, this on-line event requires advance registration

Convictions, incarceration, fines, and supervision are purposed to deter criminal activity using fear as a motivator to avoid the loss of freedom. The State of Ohio’s criminal justice system serves nearly 330,000 residents who are either under supervision or are incarcerated, with 1 in 3 returning to prison within three years of release. This workshop will review how Ohio laws criminalize HIV nondisclosure and how fear increases high-risk behaviors and stigma and perpetuates silence increasing HIV cases. We will identify advocacy areas to promote safety and support.

Meet The Speaker

LaToya Logan, LISW-S, is the founder and CEO of Project LIFT Services, a prevention and social justice agency serving males ages 14 and older, with a specific focus on Black males.

Ms. Logan is invested in eliminating the antecedents of incarceration, homelessness, and mental instability related to community and institutional dysfunction.

She is the author of The Case of the Brownie: Examining Aggression, Trauma and Apathy in Black Males and It’s Not About The Damn Brownie! It’s Not About The Damn Brownie! Workbook: Addressing Aggression, Trauma and Apathy in Black Males is a companion to the nonfiction book, The Case of the Brownie: Examining Aggression, Trauma and Apathy in Black Males, which examines the relationship between aggression, trauma, and apathy in Black males. The workbook provides exercises to help human service workers and clients to develop skills necessary to being the healing process. It is highly recommended that you read The Case of the Brownie prior to beginning the workbook; however, it is not mandatory.
