Thursday, December 5, 4-5pm, this on-line event requires advance registration
On the heels of the election, the ACLU’s legal team is busy preparing for oral arguments in front of the Supreme Court in our landmark transgender justice case, U.S. v. Skrmetti, which could have far-reaching implications on our bodily autonomy.
We invite you to join us on Thursday, December 5, the day after oral arguments, for a special debrief with Chase Strangio, co-director of the ACLU’s LGBTQ and HIV Project, who will be appearing before the Court.
The ACLU, along with Lambda Legal, is representing transgender youth, their families, and a Memphis-based medical doctor in a challenge against Tennessee’s ban on hormone therapy for transgender youth. We are arguing that the ban is a clear violation of the Equal Protection Clause. Of note, U.S. v. Skrmetti will be a major test of whether the Court is willing to stretch its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade, to allow states to ban other health care like IVF and birth control.
We will be joined by ACLU policy and legal experts:
• J.J. Straight (Host), ACLU National Campaigns Director for Reproductive Rights
• Chase Strangio, Co-Director of the ACLU LGBTQ and HIV Project
• Ria Tabacco Mar, Director of the ACLU Women’s Rights Project
After debriefing on the case, J.J., Chase, and Ria will also dedicate time to answer any of your questions.
