Thursday, January 26, 7-8:30pm, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 30 W. Woodruff Ave.
With the specter of Trump looming, the state of the environment worldwide is dire.
This week, we will be discussing a variety of pressing issues concerning the degradation of the environment and the unprecedented process of global warming from a Marxist standpoint. We will explore why environmental destruction lies at the root of capitalism, debunk the predominant strategies, such as population control and “green capitalism,” that capitalism has offered to solve the climate crisis, and show why socialism is the only way to mitigate the climate crisis.
We will also discuss how the environmental justice movement and the heroic resistance at Standing Rock have made environmental issues a crucial point of struggle and a means of conceptualizing the relationships between capitalist exploitation, inequality, and indigenous self-determination.
We are the Columbus branch of the International Socialist Organization. We are opposed to all oppression and fight for a world centered around human need, not corporate greed. We are students, community members, workers, and activists. We are socialists.
