The Bioregional Working Group is excited to welcome Luke Messinger of RAPID 5 on September 14!

RAPID 5 stands for “Rivers and Parks Imagination Design.” The “5” represents the five major waterways that flow north to south through Franklin County: Big Darby Creek, Scioto River, Olentangy River, Alum Creek, and Big Walnut Creek.

RAPID 5’s mission is to weave together these natural assets, connecting more than 80 communities to create one of the nation’s largest interconnected park systems.

This event is free and open to all, though donations are warmly appreciated to help support the staff who make gatherings like this possible. Registration is required.

Story

Bioregionalism is the practice of living in harmony with the land, water, and ecosystems that sustain us. It’s about reconnecting with our natural surroundings, learning the unique rhythms of our home region, and working together to strengthen our local community.

The Central Ohio Bioregional Working Group was established in June 2025 with the encouragement and guidance of the Great Lake Erie Southern Shore Bioregion (GLESS). The Central Ohio Bioregional Working Group is a growing collaboration between local individuals and organizations, such as the Ohio Community Rights Network (OHCRN), Leaves for Wildlife, the Central Ohio Reuse Coalition (CORC), the Care and Share Timebank, and Simply Living.

Each month, the Central Ohio Bioregional Working Group gathers to explore how we can align our daily lives with the ecological and cultural realities of our area. We’ll look at hyperlocal systems — like food, water, transportation, and energy — and discover ways to nurture a resilient, thriving place to call home.

Join us to share ideas, learn from one another, and take meaningful steps toward living simply, sustainably, and rooted in our bioregion.
