A thought-provoking workshop dedicated to examining the complex issues of Antisemitism and Islamophobia. This interactive session provides a safe and inclusive space for participants to delve into the roots, impacts, and manifestations of these forms of prejudice. From understanding stereotypes and misconceptions to examining systemic discrimination and hate crimes, this workshop aims to foster awareness, empathy, and critical thinking skills. Together, we can confront prejudice, challenge stereotypes, and work toward building a more equitable world.
For the 90-minute workshop, the program breakdown will be as follows:
i. Introduction
ii. History and current state of Islamophobia and Antisemitism
iii. Trigger terms
iv. History of Israel-Gaza and the current war
v. How to work toward:
1. Conflict resolution
2. Improve communication skills
3. How to work through Trigger Terms
vi. Navigating Social Media and Understanding Current Trends
Marium Mohiuddin:
Muslim community organizer and communications expert with more than 25 years. From working at the Muslim Public Affairs Council to founding CAIR [Council on American-Islamic Relations] Austin to leading the Communications team at the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region, Marium has devoted her career to education, crisis response and the Muslim American identity.
Dr. Zack Ritter:
Higher education professional with extensive experience in diversity and inclusion initiatives. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, as well as a Doctorate of Philosophy degree and two Master’s degrees in Education and Higher Education Administration, all earned from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He has held various administrative and teaching roles at UCLA, Harvey Mudd College, American Jewish University, University of Redlands, and California State University-Dominguez Hills, where he currently serves as the Senior Diversity Officer. As a Diversity Consultant, Ritter has expertise in developing diversity curricula, fostering inclusive academic environments, and supporting underrepresented student populations. He also has experience in international student visa regulations, career services, peer mentoring, and residential life.
