Monday, August 29, 7-8:30pm, Mershon Auditorium. 1871 N. High St.
Join us at Mershon Auditorium for the inaugural “Education for Citizenship” address, which will welcome new Ohio State students and other members of the university community to the new academic year. Hosted by Executive Vice President and Provost Melissa Gilliam, the “Education for Citizenship” address will inspire our Ohio State community to reflect on the importance of civil discourse and our Shared Values in a diverse world.
This year’s featured faculty speaker is Winston C. Thompson, associate professor in the Department of Educational Studies in the College of Education and Human Ecology. Dr. Thompson is an internationally recognized philosopher of education concerned with social, political, and ethical issues related to justice and education. He also coordinates the COMPAS (Conversations on Morality, Politics and Society) program in Ohio State’s Center for Ethics and Human Values [EHV], where he is also a member of the Steering Committee.
Tickets are recommended and are available for free. Dr. Thompson’s presentation will be followed by light refreshments from Graeter’s Ice Cream in the lobby.
