On Veterans Day of 2020, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian opened the National Native American Veterans Memorial on its grounds, honoring the extraordinary tradition of military service by generations of American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian men and women. Curator Rebecca Trautmann will discuss the memorial’s creation and design and the history of Native American military service.
Event Speaker:
Rebecca Head Trautmann is the project curator for the National Native American Veterans Memorial and assistant curator of contemporary art at the National Museum of the American Indian. Trautmann curated the exhibitions “Vantage Point: The Contemporary Native Art Collection” (2010-11) and “Making Marks: Prints from Crow’s Shadow Press” (2013-14), and co-curated “Stretching the Canvas: Eight Decades of Native Painting” (2019-21).
Registration for this event will be free if you are a member of the Ohio History Connection and will require a $5.00 payment if you are not a member.
