On December 6, join The Ohio State University’s Mershon Center for International Security Studies for a virtual conversation with Special Rapporteur Fionnuala D. Ní Aoláin about the role of human rights protection in the context of global counter-terrorism regulation.

Established by mandate in 2005 by the U.N. Commission on Human Rights, the office of the Special Rapporteur is tasked with promoting and ensuring the protection of human rights in responses to the shifting counter-terrorism landscape. The Special Rapporteur’s report to the U.N. General Assembly from September 2022, based on research conducted in Uzbekistan, Iraq, Mali, among others, found that counter-terrorism practices have undermined legal frameworks and the ability to engage in local peacebuilding efforts to mediate conflicts.
