Join Ohio Voice Thursday, June 17, 12noon-1:15pm, for LGBTQIA+ 101. This training will be a foundational webinar in language, history, and identities of the LGBTQIA+ community. This will be helpful for all levels of experience, whether you’re new to the community, an ally, or simply need a refresher! The training will be hosted by BQIC members Tea and Nubia.

BQIC, short for Black Queer and Intersectional Collective, is a grassroots community organization that works towards the liberation of Black queer, trans, and intersex people from all walks of life through direct action, community organizing, education on our issues, and creating spaces to uplift our voices.

Biographies:

Tea is a non-binary lesbian who finds equal parts joy and frustration in the act of creation. Though newer to Columbus, they love the city and the potential for creative collaboration in not just art but in the fight for liberation. They are a tarot reader, a parent, a writer, a teacher, and lover of all things Black. They are currently a core organizer for BQIC and help facilitate the community care team.

This person goes by both the names Nubia and Tamir. He is a Black lesbian from New York who believes in, writes about, and works for Black queer + trans liberation as well as children’s rights advocacy. When he’s not working, Tamir spends his free time studying astrology and diasporic traditions. His written work is meant to inspire conversation as well as provoke the reader’s view of themselves.
