Saturday, March 26, 8-10pm, Columbus Mennonite Church, 35 Oakland Park Ave.

Call it “progressive bluegrass.” Or call it “Americana/newgrass.” But whatever you call it, this modern high-energy blend of new and old music will energize the audience Saturday, March 26, as the Columbus Folk Music Society presents the tunes of Perennial Rye.

This four-member band of youthful musicians play traditional bluegrass instruments — guitar, mandolin, upright bass, and dobro — but they use their diverse background in bluegrass, jazz, classical, blues, and rock and roll to create original songs with new twists. Tight vocal harmonies are also featured.

The concert takes place at the Columbus Mennonite Church, 35 Oakland Park Ave. Perennial Rye will take the stage at 8pm, but concert-goers are invited to arrive early at 7pm to watch three other acts perform briefly during the “open mic segment” and then to participate in an “audience sing-along” of classic folk songs.

Admission to this event is by donation. $15 is suggested for the general public; $10 for Columbus Folk Music Society members. Concert-goers must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and wear masks. Also, because of a limit on audience size, concert-goers must pre-register for free at eventbrite.com.
