Thursday, April 11, 6pm, this on-line event requires advance registration
Please join us on April 11 at 6pm on Zoom for the next installment of our “Patient Empowerment” series, with a panel discussion about sex positivity and healthcare.
Patients with diverse sexual identities and practices face significant barriers to care and health. Many healthcare providers bring their own biases about sex and sexuality into the clinical interaction, discouraging patients from sharing openly with their providers. BDSM and other consensual practices may even be misinterpreted by providers as signs of abuse and inter-partner violence.
Stigma and good health are mutually exclusive — especially when it comes to sexual health.
Join our panelists as they discuss experiences with poly, kink, non-monogamous, and other “non-traditional” sexualities in relation to health and healthcare. How can providers best support and advocate for their patients? What should we know about protecting ourselves? And what is the mental health toll of having to educate prejudiced providers — especially in light of potential legal dangers?
