Join Jewish Voice for Peace Central Ohio for “Popular Resistance in Palestine: A History of Hope and Empowerment” with an example from the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability.

Professor Mazin Qumsiyeh is founder and volunteer director of the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) at Bethlehem University [PIBS-Bethlehem University]. Qumsiyeh authored several books, including Sharing the Land of Canaan and Popular Resistance in Palestine, and published over 170 scientific papers, over 50 book chapters, and hundreds of articles on topics ranging from cultural heritage to human rights to biodiversity conservation to cancer. He oversaw many projects ranging from formulating the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan to empowerment projects with farmers, women, and children that benefited tens of thousands, and oversaw many projects related to sustainability of human and natural communities and has received many awards. He will be accompanied by his wife, Jessie Chang, a co-founder and volunteer co-director at the institute.

Qumsiyeh was born in the Shepherds’ Field near Bethlehem in a Christian Family. He previously served at U.S. universities of Tennessee, Duke, and Yale.

Qumsiyeh and his team at PIBS-Bethlehem University believe in the value of diversity (human diversity and biological diversity). The motto of the Institution he founded is respect: self-respect, respect for others (different religions, ethnicities, backgrounds), and respect for the environment and nature. His lecture tour of the U.S. will help to raise awareness and garner support of all types towards sustainability of human and natural communities.

Guest parking at the Northwood-High Building is free only in spaces marked “R-reserved/Rardin clinic.” Do not part in “A” or “B” permit spaces. Free parking is also available on Norwich Ave. and Northwood Ave. on the weekend.
