Tuesday, August 17, 7pm, this on-line event requires advance registration
This year, nearly two dozen states have passed or introduced legislation to censor or prohibit Honesty in Education. These bills restrict how history and modern events are taught, especially the examination of racism and sexism in our nation. Here in Ohio, there are two pending bills, Sub. H.B. 327 and H.B. 322.
Join us on Tuesday, August 17, at 7pm, for an in-depth discussion addressing three significant threats facing Honesty in Education in Ohio: at the Statehouse, at the State Board of Education, and in local school districts. We will also examine the calculated misuse of Critical Race Theory to advance these threats.
Topics will include the following.
• House Bills 327 and 322
• Opposition to the State Board of Education Resolution to Condemn Racism and Advance Equity and Opportunity for Black Students, Indigenous Students, and Students of Color, adopted in July 2020
• Opposition to Honesty in Education and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives at local school boards and districts
• Critical Race Theory
• The impact of these threats on students, educators, Ohio, and democracy
This event will feature the following speakers.
• Dr. Vince Jungkunz, Associate Professor, Center for Law, Justice and Culture, Political Science, Critical Race Theory, Ohio University
• Meryl Johnson, Board Member, District 11, State Board of Education
• Dr. Andrea Celico, Superintendent, Bedford City School District
• Kaia Woodford, President and Co-Founder, Bexley Anti-Racism Project
