Wednesday, July 8, 12noon-1pm; The Boat House Restaurant at Confluence Park, 679 W. Spring St.; this event will also be live-streamed on YouTube

One form of media bias or perceived media bias occurs when journalists, news producers and mass media outlets select events to cover and how they are reported. It’s a subjective judgment about if and when bias occurs, but countless studies reveal examples, such as the word “black” being used as many as three times more frequently in news stories than the word “white,” which can condition viewers to associate Black people with negative news and crime. Our panelists will examine today’s media bias, intentional or inadvertent, how it is perpetuated and by whom. How will the current climate and the Black Lives Matter movement impact media bias and stereotyping?

This panel discussion will feature Kyle Strickland, Senior Legal Analyst, OSU Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity; Angela Pace, Director of Community Affairs, WBNS 10TV; and Jerry Revish, Retired Co-Anchor, WBNS 10TV.

For this discussion on July 8, limited live audience seating will be available. Paid registrations for the in-house audience are required by Monday, July 6. We cannot accept walk-ins.
