Sunday, January 19, 2:30pm, Washington Gladden Social Justice Park, northeast corner of E. Broad St. and Cleveland Ave.

The Washington Gladden Social Justice Park, located at the corner of E. Broad St. and Cleveland Ave. in downtown Columbus, will host a free public event on Sunday afternoon, January 19, to reaffirm the ideals of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The event will begin in the park at 2:30pm rather than at 2pm as announced previously. Speaking at the event will be Becky David, interim senior minister of First Congregational Church; Steve Dimler, president of the Interfaith Association of Central Ohio; and W.D. Smith, minister of justice with the Church of Christ at Genessee Avenue.

Following the program, guests will move next door into the Parish Hall of First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., for refreshments and socializing.

The church will offer a concert of choral evensong and prayers for the nation in the sanctuary at 4pm. The concert will celebrate Dr. King’s birthday and Inauguration Day and will offer inspiration for the new year.

The nation’s first park devoted to social justice displays the unique sculpture, “Our Single Garment of Destiny,” inspired by Dr. King’s metaphor in his “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” The park also includes dozens of guide stones with moving quotes from social justice champions, including Dr. King and Coretta Scott King.

During the event on January 19, parking will be available without charge immediately adjacent to the park.

Hosted by Washington Gladden Social Justice Park.
