Anji Barker joins us for an interactive Zoom discussion of her book Missionary Not Just A Position. Register for this event free (or with a donation) via Eventbrite.

It’s important to us as Red Letter Christians UK to facilitate meaningful justice-fuelled conversations about mission, locality, and community activism. We’re thrilled to welcome author / community minister / social entrepreneur Anji Barker to discuss her new book Missionary Not Just a Position, which tells the story of her unusual life so far.

Anji Barker lives and works in the inner-city neighbourhood of Winson Green, Birmingham (UK). She has 30 years experience in neighbourhood-based community work in poor urban communities in Australia, Thailand, and the UK. Anji is a trained social worker and has a special gift as an innovative social entrepreneur, having started a number of successful social enterprises in Bangkok and the UK. She is also a passionate speaker and advocate for social justice and grassroots transformation.

This Red Letter Christians UK Book Club session will be a mixture of hearing from Anji, discussion, and a time for question-and-answer. We look forward to an evening of deep discussion, stories, and probably a fair bit of laughter.

A qualified social worker and a United Reformed Church Minister, Anji has spent the last 30 years living in poor urban communities in Australia, Thailand, and the UK. She is passionate about social justice and grassroots transformation. Her faith has led her to jump in boots and all fighting for those who are pushed to the margins.

Anji shares openly and honestly about faith and doubt, the challenge of raising children in difficult places, as well as the joy that this life brings. She reminds us that our mistakes and failings can be our assets and that God delights in the strangest, most unlikely bits of who we are. Her stories will make you laugh and cry, inspire, and encourage you.

Red Letter Christians UK is a relational network for those who want to live for Jesus and Justice. Our focus is connecting and supporting Christian activists and community leaders across the UK. We aim to provide practical tools for developing advocacy and organising skills alongside deepening spiritual resilience. We seek out spiritual and tactical resonance, creating opportunities to pursue justice together. We aim to amplify prophetic voices from the margins who bring spiritual depth, experience, and a healthy dose of challenge to national conversations.
