Thursday, March 18, 5:30-7pm, this on-line event requires advance registration
It’s no secret that Ohio’s congressional and state legislative district maps are gerrymandered. Because of these maps, our legislators often fail to respond to Ohio voters on our most pressing issues, especially renewable energy, and the fight against climate change.
Fortunately, in 2015 and 2018, Ohioans overwhelmingly voted for new redistricting processes.
What even is gerrymandering? How does redistricting affect you? How will it impact environmental issues? How will the new districts represent your community?
• 5:30-6pm: Redistricting 101
During this part of the program, we’ll provide you all of the information you need to know about Ohio’s redistricting process.
• 6-7pm: Environmental Community Mapmaking
This year, it’s going to be essential for people to create maps defining their communities. Every map made will help advocates educate decision-makers about the mapmaking process, ensuring that they create maps reflective of Ohio’s diversity.
During this part of the program, we’ll go over how to use DistrictR, discuss in detail how community maps will be useful in advocacy, and spend some time making maps!
