Tuesday, January 28, 7pm, Old Worthington Library, 820 High St., Worthington, Ohio

Tilahun Tesfaye was born and raised in Ethiopia by a single mother during most of his childhood. A child sponsorship program meant an opportunity to go to school. These early experiences led to a passion about Africa and Africans and the plight of orphaned and vulnerable children.

Tilahun is co-founder of Give Hope Ethiopia (2010), and founder and current board Director of Give Hope Africa (registered in Ohio in 2018 to mobilize resources for children in need in Ethiopia, Zambia and beyond).

He is currently working with ETSS (Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services), a non-profit providing resettlement services for refugees in Central Ohio.

Tilahun will offer a fascinating presentation about his life, including:

• The socioeconomic and political context of his childhood in Ethiopia and the impact of helping hands along the way

• His first travel out of Ethiopia and the temptation not to return

• His interaction with Ethiopian/Eritrean immigrants in Sweden, UK, Malta, South Africa, Zambia, and Kenya

• The impact of faith, identity, purpose, pride

• Moving to the U.S. — The push and pull factors

• Life in the U.S. and what it means — personal, family, immediate community, and beyond
