Wednesday, September 20, 8:30am-5pm, Sheraton Columbus Hotel at Capitol Square, 75 E. State St.

Our annual advocacy training event is an opportunity to learn how to be an effective champion from experts in Ohio Legislation. We’ll have speakers during the morning, followed by a catered lunch, and then we’ll go over to the Ohio Statehouse. There, experienced organizers, issue advocates, and former lawmakers will take guests into the offices and chambers where our elected representatives make the decisions that impact us every day and share the best ways for citizens to get through to our legislators.

Agenda:

• During the morning, we’ll hear from a diverse line-up of panelists who will be discussing issues around education policy, November’s Issue 1, and priorities for election standards.

• Our keynote speaker this year is Tim Burga, President of the Ohio AFL-CIO and Vice Chairman of “We Are Ohio,” the non-profit organization designed to promote issues of social, civic, and economic justice. As a member of the Vote No in August coalition, his leadership with the Ohio AFL-CIO was an instrumental part of our victory, and we look forward to his insights.

• Lunch [catered]

• During the afternoon, we’ll head over to the Ohio Statehouse for Advocacy Training. We’ll learn the best ways to communicate with legislators and some insider tips for how to be effective advocates.

Statehouse Day is open to everyone and is free for students.
