2023 Plant List by Common Name
2023 Plant List by Botanical Name
We are focusing on native plants that are most needed by our Ohio specialist bees and other pollinators who require these specific native plants or groups of plants for their survival (versus generalist bees who can feed off many different plants). A plant list is coming soon so mark your interest to be notified.
Native plants have been originally sourced in Ohio so they have local genetics that are most conducive to our pollinators here.
Most are “straight species” plants versus “nativars” or “cultivars” that have been modified, as the “nativars/cultivars” may lose some of the characteristics of pollen, or nectar, or pollinator attraction signs.
We have small plant plugs as that is what we have found to have the most transplanting success as the plants and roots are strong enough to get established but can still grow and adapt to their new environments!
We will have native plants for:
• Prairie / Full Sun
• Woodlands / Shade or Partial Shade
• Wetlands / Perfect for rain gardens or wet areas, but can still handle the dry heat of summer
These native plants are perennial, which means that they will come back each year on their own, so you don’t have to buy new ones. There are a couple of native annuals that freely re-seed. Their roots are deeper so, once established, they will need little care as they are well suited to our climate.
In an effort to be more eco-friendly, your plants will be transferred out of their unrecyclable plastic pots into a paper pot made from recycled newspapers, with plant labels made from recycled cottage cheese, yogurt, or old window blinds, made by our many volunteers.
Please bring a container [a box or a laundry basket] to take your plants home.
