Saturday, May 22, 12noon, beginning and ending at the intersection of N. High St. and North Broadway
Healthcare in Ohio and across the nation costs too much and commercial insurance covers too little for too few. Physicians, nurses, unions, and churches have studied health reform and concluded that an improved expanded version of Medicare would be the best policy option to control costs and cover everyone with comprehensive benefits. There are bills pending in the U.S. Congress and in the Ohio legislature based on this improved, expanded “Medicare for all” model. We are demanding state and national action to get everyone covered now.
Please join the Single Payer Action Network of Ohio, on Saturday, May 22, at 12noon, at the intersection of N. High St. and North Broadway, for a “Walk for Healthcare Justice.” Similar walks will take place throughout the state. Visit the spanohio.org website for additional information.
• Please ask relatives and friends to sponsor you with a donation, as this event is a fundraiser for SPAN Ohio in addition to being a visible demonstration of our mission to gain necessary health care access for all Americans.
• If you cannot walk with us, you can be a sponsor of the walk. You can make out a check payable to SPAN Ohio and mail it to Bob Krasen at 566 Blenheim Rd., Columbus OH 43214. If you wish, you may include the name of the person you are sponsoring on the “for” line at the bottom of the check, so that we can give that person credit for their effort.
• Parking is available in the Kroger parking lot at the northwest corner of North Broadway and N. High St. or in the North Broadway United Methodist Church lot at 48 E. North Broadway.
• Please bring a sign to carry. We will have some, but there may not be enough for all.
• We will walk north on N. High St. to the Whetstone Branch Library, 3923 N. High St., where we will pause for water and bathrooms. We will walk on the opposite side of N. High Street to return to North Broadway. It is about a 1.2-mile round trip.
“Health care reform remains a top issue among Americans: 93% believe that all patients should be treated equally, but only 16% believe that this is currently the case. Public opinion shows about 60% support for national health insurance based on a single-payer improved Medicare for All. Support increases to 72% when people are told this would make healthcare a right for all Americans, reduce the role of commercial insurers, and eliminate their administrative waste.”
“Polls reveal support for single-payer reform growing among physicians. Most physicians and patients have similar goals for reform. They want everybody covered, better health care cost control, improved quality of care, and a reduction in the burgeoning health care administrative bureaucracy.” [Physicians for a National Health Program, (PNHP)]
As Winston Churchill once said, when things were most bleak for England in WWII, “This is our finest hour!” Let’s not miss it! Please support SPAN Ohio in its mission to help gain Medicare for All!
