We Are Not Afraid is the second film in the National Museum of American Religion’s “Religious Thought During Times of National Crisis” series. This film explores how religious thoughts animated the responses of some Americans, mostly in New York City, on September 11, 2001, as they experienced the terrorist attacks that killed over 3,000 people on that day alone.

Chris Stevenson is founder and president of America’s Quilt of Faith, a nonprofit that champions religion as indispensable to the American experiment in self-government. He is also the co-founder of the private, digital-first National Museum of American Religion, which tells the story of what religion has done to America and what America has done to religion.

Danny Drysdale has been directing and producing documentaries and scripted content for 15+ years. He is the founder and president of Eight Little Crickets. This is his second film for the National Museum of American Religion.

Dr. Melissa Matthes is full professor at United States Coast Guard Academy where she teaches courses in religion and politics. She is the author most recently of When Sorrow Comes: The Power of Sermons from Pearl Harbor to Black Lives Matter. She holds a PhD in political theory, cultural anthropology, and feminist studies.
