Saturday, August 19, 2-3pm, Columbus City Hall, 90 W. Broad St.

Last Saturday, the face of hate descended on Charlottesville to wage a campaign of terror and violence. It was not an anomaly. America was “discovered,” founded and built on an ocean of blood and genocide and our legacy of racism remains alive and well today. This Saturday, the nation responds in solidarity by calling out for the removal of local symbols and institutions of white supremacy.

Over 60 years ago, a statue of Christopher Columbus, the thief, mutilator, mass rapist and murderer of the New World, was erected in front of Columbus City Hall. Incredibly, many in our city do not recognize or choose not to recognize the true, brutal history of our city’s namesake.

A national day of action has been called by the Black Lives Matter network, Showing Up for Racial Justice, and others. Join Showing Up for Racial Justice, Black Central, Democratic Socialists of America — Columbus, and People’s Justice Project tomorrow as we stand in solidarity with Charlottesville and demand the removal of this monument to white supremacy and the day-to-day manifestations of white supremacy that this monument represents.
