First Community Church’s Gun Violence Prevention and Safety Task Force and Upper Arlington High School’s Students for Change, with support from the Upper Arlington Education Foundation and other local community, civic, and faith partners, are bringing gun-violence prevention advocate David Hogg to Columbus.

On February 14, 2018, 17-year-old David’s life changed forever. As a senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, he lost 17 friends, classmates and teachers when a lone teen gunman sprayed bullets from a high-powered rifle, marking it the largest (deadliest) high school shooting in American history.

With the recent devastating shootings in El Paso and Dayton and West Texas, the time is now to “do something.” David’s call to “get over politics and get something done” challenges all of us to stand up, speak out, and work together to end gun violence.

His mission of increasing awareness, action, and civic engagement matches the mission that our Task Force set out to do for the past year and a half, one small step at a time.

While we are approaching this issue from the perspective of a public health crisis which impacts everyone, we are especially reaching out to high school students and to young adults to encourage and support their participation in this free event.
