Wednesday, April 14, 7-8:30pm, this event will be occurring via Zoom

North Columbus Friends Meeting is hosting a “film discussion gathering” as a tool to bring our community together around peace and social justice concerns by fostering a deep and sustained discussion with an intention of testing for how we as a community or individuals might be led to take action. This event will include a “Call to Action” focused on legislative efforts to end the death penalty in Ohio.

“True Justice: Bryan Stevenson’s Fight for Equality” is a documentary film about Bryan Stevenson’s fight for equality following thirty years of EJI’s (Equal Justice Initiative’s) work on behalf of the poor, the incarcerated, and the condemned. It focuses particularly on the indictment of the U.S. criminal justice system for its role in codifying modern systemic racism and tracks the intertwined histories of slavery, lynching, segregation, and mass incarceration. Highlighting watershed moments involving cases and clients, “True Justice” offers a rare glimpse into the human struggle that is required when the poor and people of color are wrongly condemned or unfairly sentenced and explores the personal toll it takes.

Friends are asked to watch the film — at their own convenience — prior to the discussion on April 14.
