Second session: “LaborFest Forum and Film,” Saturday, October 14, 11am, Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium, Cleveland Public Library, 325 Superior Ave., Cleveland, Ohio
This session will begin with a showing of the film, The Wobblies, a remarkable documentary that captures the struggles, the spirit, the songs, and the satirical humor of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) [aka “the Wobblies”]. This film features riveting interviews with old-timer Wobblies who had participated in the multitude of IWW campaigns from the lumber camps of the Pacific Northwest to the textile mills in the New England states. It vividly portrays the IWW’s prodigious efforts to “fan the flames of discontent” with its multilingual newspapers, rousing songs, unsung heroes, and celebrated martyrs.
A panel presentation, with a lineup of featured speakers and historians, will follow the screening of The Wobblies; a question-and-answer period will follow.
Admission to the Saturday session is free and open to the public; a light luncheon will be served.
