Handel’s Messiah, the Christmas Portion and the Hallelujah Chorus, will be performed at St. John’s United Church of Christ on Sunday, December 2 at 11am under the direction of May Schwarz, Minister of Music at St. John’s.
This popular choral masterpiece was composed by Handel, depressed and in debt, in 1741, in just 24 days. It was first performed at the Music Hall in Dublin, Ireland on April 13, 1742.
Soloists for this popular choral masterpiece will be Laura Portune, Melinda Green, John Mitchell, and Robert Kerr. The 40-voice choir will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra with trumpets in the balcony.
Also: Sarah Gross and Dan King will perform Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Two Trumpets” accompanied by a chamber orchestra.
There will be a free-will offering; free parking will be available.
