As part of our #iwilleatwithyou solidarity campaign, Ohio Progressive Asian Women’s Leadership [OPAWL] will be hosting a series of dinner discussion events with the Ohio Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community and our allies, on Saturday, April 25, 6-8pm! Everyone is welcome to join and break bread with us virtually!

The discussion topic for our first dinner on 4/25 will be anti-Asian racism and Yellow Peril. We’ll celebrate the recent wins from our public anti-Asian racism sign-on letter and talk about the centuries-long history of anti-Asian racism in the U.S. that continues to deeply impact our members and our communities during the pandemic. As an intersectional feminist organization, we are also concerned about the roles that class, gender, and immigration status play in the rise of racist attacks; the Stop AAPI Hate incident tracker has reported AAPI women are 2-3 times more likely to be harassed than men. Discussing the topic of anti-Asian racism is important for understanding how white supremacy benefits from scapegoating, demonizing, and dividing our communities, so we can be better equipped to care for each other and build solidarity with other communities of color.

This topic may seem a little serious but trust us, this event will be educational as well as fun! We hope to create a sense of community and solidarity to get us through this new reality and help create a more resilient world after the crisis. And a portion of donations made will be used to support AAPI-owned businesses through a give-away at each event. We will be selecting one lucky attendee to receive a gift card/certificate.
