While serving as Director of Athletics for The Ohio State University, Gene Smith has been an incredible advocate for LGBTQ students, including producing two videos for the “You Can Play” project [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_11bWV-XugE&feature=youtu.be ], an initiative dedicated to ensuring equality, respect, and safety for all athletes regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

Each year, Equality Ohio honors a straight, cisgender ally to the LGBTQ community. The Columbus Allies for Equality is our signature event and our largest annual fundraiser. Your support allows Equality Ohio to continue to advocate and educate for LGBTQ Ohioans.

This event is a fundraiser for the Equality Ohio Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization related to Equality Ohio, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that advocates for full equality for the LGBTQ community.
