In a sickening turn of events, just as the Chauvin verdict was announced, Columbus Police murdered another black child, this time a sixteen-year-old girl named Ma’Khia Bryant.

Chauvin being found guilty on all charges was a victory only won by the powerful George Floyd uprisings last summer. But the recent shootings of Daunte Wright, Adam Toledo, Miles Jackson, and Ma’Khia Bryant highlight the lack of meaningful structural reforms passed under the political establishment.

To sustain the struggle and win justice for all victims of police violence, we need an organized, multi-racial, working-class movement. Majority Black workers in Bessemer, Alabama, many of whom were directly inspired by the George Floyd rebellion, just wrapped up a historic union drive at an Amazon warehouse. Amazon’s empty support of Black Lives was exposed with their racist union-busting campaign to continue their horrific working conditions for profit. While it ended in a loss, the strong ties with the fight against racism point an important way forward for the movement.

Tearing down statues of Christopher Columbus and a lackluster, appointed civilian review board aren’t enough. We need real community control of public safety; We need to defund the police by at least 50%, tax wealthy corporations, and fund affordable housing, living-wage green jobs, and quality public education. And to win a world without racist policing, we must build a broad struggle against our profit-driven system itself. Join us to discuss how to build a movement to get there.
