Save Ohio Parks Central Ohio Kickoff 2026
On Zoom! Register here

As Columbus is the seat of Ohio state government, Central Ohio is a key region for Save Ohio Parks' work to stop fracking of our public lands. While Save Ohio Parks is a statewide organization, those of us in this central region can take advantage of our proximity to state government to show up for our environment, in person, where it matters the most.

At this meeting we will be discussing how our Central Ohio group can make an impact in 2026. Some of the ways you can get involved are by helping with (or leading!) one of the following action group

1. Oil and Gas Land Management Commission (OGLMC) task force
The OGLMC is the governor-appointed body in charge of making decisions about fracking Ohio's state parks and public lands. They hold periodic meetings -- often with only a weeks' notice -- at which it would be valuable to have representatives from Save Ohio Parks to show our opposition to fracking these protected areas.

2. Legislature Task Force
Ohio's House and Senate holds hearings that impact how our state handles legislation involving energy and that impacts us all. We need to ensure that our desire for clean energy is represented, particularly as demands for energy rise across the state with proposed construction of data centers. Once again, these hearings are often announced with short notice.

3. Fairs and Festivals Team
Throughout the year, although primarily in the summer months, there are opportunities to have a presence at fairs and festivals. This might include tabling at Earth Day, Comfest, ArborFest, or other events throughout central Ohio.

4. Events Team
Hosting local informational events, for example, at the public library or a local school, are important ways to spread awareness about the fracking that is occurring in our state parks and public lands.

5. Elections / Endorsement Task Force
2026 is an important year for local and statewide elections. This team could focus on determining which candidates are aligned with Save Ohio Parks' goals for potential endorsements or partnerships and create ways for us to help these candidates get elected.

There are other ways to get involved as well -- and if you don't see anything above that resonates with you or you prefer something that requires minimal to no commitment, that's great too!

Join us on February 3 as we share ideas and plan for the year ahead because we need your help to stop the fracking of our state parks and public lands.
