Sunday, April 14, 3-5pm, Ohio Union [U.S. Bank Conference Theater], 1739 N. High St.
What are the neural mechanisms of reading, mathematics, attention, and other learning and communication processes? Educational neuroscience draws upon cognitive neuroscience, education, and psychology to answer these questions and to examine other neurobiological processes related to education. Vanderbilt University’s Laurie E. Cutting provides an overview of this emerging field and the insights that it can offer, using reading development as an exemplar and examining how neurobiological approaches inform and refine our understanding of how to identify and treat reading difficulties.
Laurie E. Cutting is the Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor at Vanderbilt University, Associate Director of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, and a Senior Scientist at Haskins Laboratories. Her work focuses on brain-behavior relations in children and adolescents.
Science Sundays is a free public lecture series offered and supported by The Ohio State University College of Arts and Sciences and its sponsoring science centers. Speakers are leading experts in their fields dedicated to making their work interesting and accessible for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Science Sundays brings leading-edge work directly to the public with lectures covering diverse topics in science, arts and technology that touch our everyday lives.
Each lecture is from 3-4 p.m. at the Ohio Union U.S. Bank Conference Theater, followed by a free, informal reception from 4-5 p.m. at the Ohio Staters Traditions Room in the Ohio Union.
