1-5pm: Self-Guided Native Plant Tour

Come see approximately 120+ Ohio Native Plants in the Prairie Garden, Woodland area, and Rain Garden area as they will all be labeled and coming into bloom!

1pm: Edible Permaculture Forest Garden Tour

Specific tall canopy and sub-canopy trees, shrubs, herbaceous, and ground cover plants for creating a perennial edible forest edge in your yard will be discussed, that provide various fruits, berries, nuts, mushrooms, and more. Permaculture techniques to capture rain water, reduce weeding, and fertilize the soil will be reviewed. See how food forests can increase food security, mitigate flooding, reduce cooling/air conditioning costs, eliminate pollution, all while supporting pollinators and wildlife!

2:30pm: Edible Native Forbs and Indigenous Uses Tour

Many of our native plants are edible too, in teas or for medicinal uses, or stems or barks are used for fiber or dyes. Dianne will review some of these in a tour around the Sunny Glen Garden native plants.

4pm: Cording Demonstration (making rope from native plants)

See how easy it is to use various native plant stem barks or leaves from various plants to create rope, or cordage that can be braided, or woven into small containers.

Sunny Glen Garden Native Plants will be available for purchase at the event.

You may view an updated native plant list here.

We will be featuring a lot of goldenrods, asters, and more, as these native plants are most needed for specialist pollinators that must have these host plants in order to survive and provide the needed fall pollen and nectar sources and habitat. Small plants will be transplanted into paper pots from recycled newspapers with plant labels made from recycled yogurt containers.

Accepted payment forms: Cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, or UnionPay international logo, as well as mobile wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District Community Backyard Vouchers.
