Columbus City Council is holding a hearing on the draft Columbus Climate Action Plan, which was released last December. The plan has 30 goals and strategies under 13 action items in five areas: Climate Solutions, Sustainable Neighborhoods, Buildings, Transportation, and Waste.
While we applaud the City for counting its carbon emissions and identifying strategies to lower them, the goals do not go far enough. Climate science says that we must cut carbon emissions in half by 2030 if we want a livable planet. The draft Climate Action Plan would cut emissions by only 25%.
Please sign up to give spoken or written testimony at the Columbus City Council hearing on the Climate Action Plan. Tell Columbus City Council to raise the ambitions of the climate plan so that it is in line with climate science. We will provide you with talking points as well as training on how to testify.
Science says that we have just 10 years to cut carbon emissions in half. We can do better than 25%! We also need stronger goals for addressing climate inequities that hit those who did the least to cause the climate crisis the hardest.
