Each summer, the Thurber House lawn plays host to a series of outdoor literary picnics and readings with authors who have an Ohio connection. While this year’s picnics might look a little different, join us for this long-running tradition of good friends and great books!

Once You Go This Far is the fourth thrilling mystery from two-time Shamus Award-winning author Kristen Lepionka.

School nurse Rebecca Newsome was an experienced hiker until she plummeted to her death at the bottom of a ravine in a Columbus metro park. Rebecca’s ex-husband, a well-connected ex-cop, is the prime suspect. But no one will listen to Rebecca’s daughter. Private investigator Roxane Weary quickly uncovers an unusual trail of circumstances: a series of trips to Detroit and a casino in Windsor, Canada, strange calls from Rebecca’s home to a charismatic political candidate, a secretive church group that seems to have more information about its members than it should, and more. Roxane needs to figure out how everything is connected before a dangerous secret gets someone else killed.

Kristen Lepionka is the two-time Shamus Award-winning and Anthony and Macavity Award-nominated author of the Roxane Weary mystery series. She grew up mostly in her local public library, where she read countless adult mysteries before she was out of middle school. She is a co-founder of the feminist podcast “Unlikeable Female Characters,” and she lives in Columbus, Ohio, with her partner and two cats.

Picnicking begins at 6:30pm. We may be meeting on Zoom for this event, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t picnic! Grab a meal and drop in to the Zoom event early to picnic on the “lawn” with us. We’ll be rolling photos of the Thurber House lawn as you catch up with friends. The program begins at 6:45pm. You will have the opportunity to ask the author questions after the event and to purchase a book.
